From the original floral portrait to complete abstract transformation into "The Watcher" this is the first series of floral abstracts I started my artistic journey with. Why is it called The Watcher?
So long before I even knew about the Watchers in the Bible I felt that I could see something in the eye of the ranunculus I was photographing. To my eye it was like something divine was watching me just as I was looking at the flowers. I decided to experiment with manipulating the image and the result was my first Watcher abstract portrait.
Now biblically speaking, the Watchers are a special class of angelic beings who were supposed to merely observe mankind but not get involved with human affairs.
However, instead of remaining in their purpose these angels left their heavenly posts and came down to the earth. They saw the daughters of men that they were fare and took each for their own, wives of the daughters of men. They taught mankind secret and forbidden knowledge and also had children with the daughters of mankind creating hybrids.
Because of this sin, the hybrid offspring they spawned were called the Nephilim. The Nephilim were giants in the earth and from them the genetics of men were spoiled and the earth became filled with exceedingly great violence and evil which ultimately led to the most high God destroying the world by way of a great flood. Hence Noah's ark. I consider the abstract portrait in this series my interpretation of what it would be like to see a watcher gazing at our world through God's glorious creations, flowers.
